Never've been fond of Sammi. As time passes by, however, I realized how she has marked our time and came to appreciate her works. Like many audience, I was swallowed by the narration.
This is from her 2007 comeback album. I have to say she still holds the commanding power over the song. Her edge became clearer if you cross examine it with Joey Yung's rendition of the same song.
Technically Joey's performance is above average, but underweight. Objectively I do not think she has the emotional background to handle this one, especially when you compare it with Sammmi's version.
We've been spoiled too often by Joey's style of canto-pop performance to the point that we've lost awareness of the variety of dimensions canto music could lead us to.
